Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, on Monday held a meeting with President Bola Tinubu where he outlined his administration’s key priorities, focusing on security concerns, infrastructure development, and the need for stronger collaboration with the Federal Government.

In a statement released on Tuesday by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunisu Bature, it was explained that the closed-door engagement provided an opportunity for Governor Yusuf to formally update the President on critical issues facing Kano State, as well as emerging opportunities for growth.

Central to the discussion was the rising insecurity in parts of the state, particularly in some local government areas.

“Governor Yusuf informed President Tinubu about the recent tragic killing of a housewife and her children, stressing the need for decisive federal support to strengthen security operations and protect innocent citizens,” the statement said.

The governor drew attention to the efforts of the Kano State Neighbourhood Watch Corps, noting its supportive role alongside conventional security agencies. He emphasised that improved coordination with federal security institutions would significantly enhance intelligence sharing and rapid response to threats.

Yusuf also used the meeting to present his administration’s broader development vision, highlighting major infrastructure projects designed to boost economic activity and improve livelihoods across the state.

“He underscored the importance of deeper synergy between the Neighbourhood Watch Corps and federal security agencies to improve intelligence gathering and rapid response.

“He used the opportunity to thank the President for the federal intervention on the Wujuwuju Road, describing it as a critical step towards unlocking economic growth and job creation in the state,” the statement added.

The governor further appealed for presidential backing to accelerate both ongoing and proposed federal projects in Kano, arguing that enhanced cooperation would enable the state to fully benefit from national programmes and investments.

According to Bature, President Tinubu responded positively, assuring Governor Yusuf of the Federal Government’s willingness to work closely with Kano State to confront insecurity and advance long-term development goals.

“President Tinubu reaffirmed his administration’s readiness to work closely with Kano State to tackle security challenges and drive inclusive development,” the statement read.

What you should know
Abba Yusuf is the current governor of Kano State and has consistently prioritised security and infrastructure since assuming office.

Kano, one of Nigeria’s most populous states, has faced pockets of insecurity that require both state and federal intervention. The Kano State Neighbourhood Watch Corps was created to complement formal security agencies, especially at the grassroots level.

President Bola Tinubu has repeatedly stressed the importance of federal–state collaboration in addressing security challenges and promoting sustainable economic development across the country.
