The Colombian music world is in mourning following the death of chart-topping artist Yeison Jiménez, who perished Saturday afternoon when his private aircraft crashed shortly after takeoff, killing all six people aboard.

The plane went down in the rural area between Paipa and Duitama in central Colombia’s Boyacá department, according to civil aviation authorities. The flight had been bound for Medellín, where Jiménez was scheduled to perform.

Emergency responders arrived to find the wreckage consumed by flames. Video footage captured at the scene shows the aircraft fully engulfed as crews worked to extinguish the blaze. Despite their efforts, there were no survivors.

The aircraft is believed to have been owned by a company associated with Jiménez. Authorities have launched a full investigation into the cause of the crash, though no preliminary findings have been released.

In a chilling detail that underscores the sudden nature of the tragedy, photographer Weisman Mora—who was traveling with Jiménez—shared video from inside the cabin just moments before impact. The footage shows the plane taxiing down the runway in what appeared to be a routine departure.

Jiménez’s team confirmed the devastating news through an emotional Instagram statement, describing the loss as “indescribable.” The post honored the 38-year-old not only as an internationally recognized artist but also as “a son, a brother, and a friend who inspired thousands.”

The singer had risen to become one of Colombia’s most commercially successful musical exports, carving out a distinctive niche by fusing traditional Mexican ranchera music with Colombian folk influences. His crossover appeal earned him a devoted following across Latin America and among Spanish-speaking audiences worldwide.

Known for his powerful vocals and emotionally resonant lyrics about love, heartbreak, and everyday struggles, Jiménez had released numerous hit songs and filled concert venues throughout the region. His authentic style and connection with working-class audiences made him a cultural ambassador for Colombian music on the international stage.

News of the crash sent shockwaves through Colombia’s entertainment industry and beyond. Tributes have poured in from fellow artists, public figures, and devastated fans who have taken to social media to express their grief and share memories of how Jiménez’s music has touched their lives.

The tragedy leaves behind Jiménez’s wife and three young children, as well as countless fans who found solace and joy in his music.

As investigators work to determine what caused the aircraft to go down so soon after departure, questions remain about whether mechanical failure, weather conditions, or other factors played a role in the disaster.

The crash marks one of the most significant losses to Colombia’s music community in recent years, silencing a voice that had become synonymous with the country’s contemporary cultural identity.
