Former U.S. President Donald Trump has ridiculed media portrayals suggesting that billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk wields significant power within his administration. In a Fox News interview set to air on Tuesday, Trump joked about the press creating the narrative that he had “ceded control of the presidency” to Musk, who heads the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).

Despite Musk’s sweeping influence in identifying and eliminating wasteful government spending, Trump remains publicly supportive of his efforts, emphasizing their importance in tackling the nation’s budget deficits. However, Musk’s growing presence in the White House has sparked widespread debate, with publications like *Time* and *The New Yorker* illustrating scenarios where he appears to overshadow the president.

Trump acknowledged that he and Musk had discussed these media speculations, revealing that Musk directly called him to point out attempts to drive a wedge between them. Trump dismissed such efforts, arguing that the American public sees through media manipulation. “The people are smart,” Trump asserted. “They get it.”

While Musk continues to face declining public approval, as reflected in recent opinion polls, Trump’s popularity has remained strong. Despite Democratic critics seizing upon the dynamic between the two figures, Trump appears unfazed, maintaining that media-driven narratives have little impact on his presidency.
