The All Progressives Congress held its national caucus meeting in Abuja on Thursday, with President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima present at the gathering hosted at the State House.

The meeting brought together a broad spectrum of party stakeholders, including serving and former governors from across the federation, current and past national leaders of the party, as well as former and serving members of the National Assembly.

Also in attendance were prominent political figures who recently defected from the Peoples Democratic Party to the APC. Among them were the PDP’s vice presidential candidate in the 2023 general election, Ifeanyi Okowa, as well as former Senate Presidents Anyim Pius Anyim and Ken Nnamani.

Several governors who have in recent weeks crossed over from the PDP were also present at the caucus meeting. These include Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State, Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State, Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State, and Governor Douye Diri of Bayelsa State.

The presence of these figures underscored the growing political realignments within the country and highlighted the APC’s efforts to consolidate its influence ahead of future political engagements.

What you should know

The APC national caucus meeting serves as a strategic forum where key party leaders review political developments, strengthen internal cohesion, and chart future direction.

The attendance of recently defected governors and high-profile former PDP leaders signals a major shift in Nigeria’s political landscape, reflecting ongoing realignments at both state and national levels.

Such meetings often shape policy coordination within the ruling party and influence preparations for upcoming elections and governance priorities.
