The Kabiru Turaki-led Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) says it has not received any formal notification from Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke regarding his reported resignation from the party.

Adeleke had announced on Tuesday that he was leaving the PDP, attributing his decision to the party’s persistent internal issues.

Speaking after the National Working Committee (NWC) meeting in Abuja, Turaki told journalists that Adeleke is fully within his constitutional rights to remain in the party or withdraw, stressing that the choice belongs entirely to him.

Turaki noted that the PDP only became aware of Adeleke’s resignation through media reports and has yet to receive any direct communication from the governor.

“We have seen online a letter said to be from him resigning from our party, but I tell you that we have not, up to this moment, received any formal indication that he has left,” Turaki stated.

He added that Adeleke’s name is still listed among the aspirants vying for the party’s governorship ticket in Osun.

“As far as we are concerned, even if the letter circulating online is genuine, Gov. Adeleke, like any Nigerian, has the freedom to associate as he wishes,” Turaki added.

What You Should Know

Governor Ademola Adeleke reportedly announced his departure from the Peoples Democratic Party due to internal conflicts, but the party leadership says it has not received any official resignation letter.

Kabiru Turaki, speaking after the NWC meeting, emphasized Adeleke’s constitutional freedom to stay or leave and clarified that his name still appears on the list of aspirants seeking the PDP governorship ticket in Osun State.

Despite a resignation letter circulating online, the party insists no formal communication has been received. The situation highlights ongoing internal tensions within the PDP and raises questions about the governor’s political direction.
