Summary

The Rivers State Police Command has refuted a widely circulated social media video that claimed herdsmen had attacked communities in the state and were repelled by Ijaw youths.

In a statement released on Wednesday, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Grace Iringe-Koko, described the video as “false and deliberately misleading,” asserting that it was created to incite fear and disrupt the ongoing peace in Rivers State.

According to the police, there is no evidence—be it reports, incidents, or intelligence—that Fulani herdsmen have carried out attacks in any part of the state. The viral content, they explained, is a calculated attempt by individuals seeking to undermine the security and stability currently enjoyed by residents.

The Command urged the public to ignore the video and avoid sharing unverified information that could trigger unnecessary panic or tarnish the state’s image.

Iringe-Koko emphasized that the police, in collaboration with other security agencies, remain fully committed to protecting lives and property. She highlighted that “robust security measures are in place, including operational patrol teams, surveillance units, and tactical squads,” adding that the leadership under Commissioner of Police Olugbenga Adepoju is focused on transparent and accountable policing.

The police concluded by advising citizens to stay calm, remain vigilant, and confirm information through official channels before dissemination.

What you should know

The Rivers State Police have dismissed claims in a viral video alleging herdsmen attacks, confirming that no such incidents occurred.

The Command urged residents not to share unverified content and assured the public of continued security measures.
