The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has called for the release of TikToker Olumide Ogunsanwo, aka SeaKing, who was arrested for criticizing him on social media.
SeaKing was taken into custody in December 2024 after the Concerned Christian Youth Forum petitioned the Lagos State Police Command over his remarks, in which he described Adeboye’s directive for a 100-day fast as “stupid.” His arrest sparked widespread outrage online.
However, in a viral video, Adeboye distanced himself from the incident, stating he was unaware of the arrest and had no involvement in it. He urged for SeaKing’s release, saying, “I didn’t ask anyone outside RCCG to fast. I was told that some people got so angry and arrested him. Haaa! Release him.”
Meanwhile, the Christian group that initiated the arrest defended its actions, stating that SeaKing’s remarks were a form of cyber harassment against respected religious leaders.
One of SeaKing’s legal representatives, Deji Adeyanju, welcomed Adeboye’s intervention and confirmed that legal action would be taken against those behind the arrest, calling it unlawful.
The case highlights ongoing debates around free speech, religious authority, and the limits of cyber harassment laws in Nigeria.
