The Federal Government has unveiled a new initiative known as the Tax Reform Challenge, aimed at engaging Nigerian students in the country’s ongoing fiscal policy transformation.

The announcement was made on Friday by the Chairman of the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms, Taiwo Oyedele, through his official X account. The competition is a nationwide effort designed to spark meaningful discussions and encourage creativity among young Nigerians concerning the country’s new tax reform laws.

According to the statement, the contest is open to all undergraduates enrolled in Nigerian tertiary institutions, as well as graduates currently serving under the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) program or those awaiting mobilisation.

Oyedele explained that the initiative’s objective is to enhance awareness, foster tax education, and promote constructive youth-led dialogue on Nigeria’s evolving tax policies. He noted that the challenge aligns with the committee’s broader strategy of increasing public understanding of the new tax framework while providing young Nigerians a platform to contribute innovative and practical ideas to fiscal reform debates.

Participants are expected to study the recently enacted tax laws and create an original submission in the form of an article, video, podcast, radio broadcast, or social media post. These entries must be published between July 1 and December 31, 2025, and must directly relate to the ongoing tax reform process.

Oyedele emphasized that all submissions should be factual, educational, and engaging, adding that constructive criticism of the reform is also encouraged. The entries will be evaluated based on creativity, factual accuracy, and how effectively they engage or educate the public on tax-related matters.

Winners of the Tax Reform Challenge will share a total of ₦10 million in cash prizes, with ₦5 million for the first-place winner, ₦3 million for the second, and ₦2 million for the third. In addition, Oyedele disclosed that the top 10 finalists from each geopolitical zone would receive consolation prizes, including digital devices, internship or employment opportunities, and the prestigious title of Tax Reform Youth Ambassador.

The Youth Ambassadors will play a crucial role in spreading fiscal awareness, driving tax literacy, and encouraging youth involvement in national fiscal policy discussions.

Interested participants are directed to visit the official website, fiscalreforms.ng, for detailed guidelines and application procedures.
