Liverpool roared back to winning ways in style on Wednesday night, dismantling Eintracht Frankfurt 5-1 in the Champions League to snap a worrying four-game losing streak.

Hugo Ekitike scored against his former club, setting the stage for a dominant Reds performance that saw Virgil van Dijk, Ibrahima Konate, Cody Gakpo, and Dominik Szoboszlai all find the net.

The win ended what could have been Liverpool’s worst losing run in 73 years, dating back to the 1953–54 season, when they were relegated from the top flight. Arne Slot’s men came into the match under immense pressure, with the manager making the bold decision to drop an out-of-form Mohamed Salah.

Despite Liverpool’s bright start, the hosts struck first. Rasmus Kristensen finished off a rapid counterattack after Nathaniel Brown dispossessed Florian Wirtz, putting Frankfurt ahead in the 26th minute. But that early lead only seemed to awaken Liverpool’s firepower.

Andy Robertson’s quick interception led to a moment of brilliance when he launched a precise long-range pass to Ekitike, who calmly slotted the ball beneath goalkeeper Michael Zetterer before raising his hands in apology to Frankfurt fans. The equaliser shifted the game’s momentum instantly.

Four minutes later, Van Dijk powered home a header from a Gakpo corner to give Liverpool the lead. Just before halftime, Ibrahima Konate replicated his defensive partner’s effort, heading in another set piece as Frankfurt’s defence fell apart.

In the second half, Wirtz returned to Germany and eager to prove himself, delivered two superb assists. First, he teed up Gakpo for Liverpool’s fourth, and minutes later, he set up Szoboszlai to seal the emphatic 5-1 victory.

While Wirtz shone with two assists, Alexander Isak continued his struggles in front of goal and was replaced at halftime by Federico Chiesa. Despite the commanding win, Slot’s men know tougher challenges lie ahead than a Frankfurt side that has now conceded 23 goals in its last six outings.

What You Should Know

Liverpool’s 5-1 victory over Eintracht Frankfurt marked a crucial turnaround for Arne Slot’s side after a worrying slump in form.

The performance highlighted the team’s resilience and attacking depth, with key contributions from Hugo Ekitike, Van Dijk, Konate, Gakpo, and Szoboszlai. Florian Wirtz’s return to Germany proved memorable, as his two assists reignited confidence in his abilities after a quiet start to the season.

The win not only lifted spirits at Anfield but also reminded Europe that Liverpool remains a formidable force — even amid challenges and tactical transitions under their new manager.
