The Niger State Police Command has commenced full enforcement of tinted glass permits in the state, with Commissioner of Police, Adamu Elleman, personally supervising the exercise in Minna on Thursday.

Officers were stationed at strategic points across the city, stopping vehicles with tinted glasses to verify compliance with the Motor Vehicle (Prohibition of Tinted Glass) Act, 2004. CP Elleman urged officers to remain professional, courteous, and firm while ensuring motorists abide by the regulations.

The commissioner stressed that the operation was not punitive but a national security measure to curb criminal activities often facilitated by the indiscriminate use of tinted glasses. He warned that vehicles without permits would be impounded and owners prosecuted.

During the exercise, a member of the Niger State House of Assembly representing Bosso Constituency, Abu Adamu Gomna, was among those stopped for checks. Speaking afterward, he commended the police commissioner for his leadership, saying even lawmakers should be subject to the same enforcement as ordinary citizens.

“This shows fairness. Once people comply with regulations, criminality will reduce. Many criminals hide under the disguise of tinted glasses to perpetrate crime,” Gomna said.

Elleman praised motorists for their cooperation and appealed for continued support, assuring residents of the police command’s commitment to safety and order.
