The Federal Government on Sunday held a special thanksgiving service at the National Ecumenical Centre, Abuja, to mark Nigeria’s 65th independence anniversary.
The service drew top government officials, including Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Secretary to the Government of the Federation George Akume, Finance Minister Wale Edun, and former Plateau State Governor Simon Lalong. Military and security chiefs were also in attendance, led by the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa.

Last week, government officials unveiled the official theme for this year’s Independence Day celebrations, “Nigeria @ 65: All Hands on Deck for a Greater Nation.”
According to Segun Imohiosen, Director of Information and Public Relations in the SGF’s office, the theme underscores the importance of unity, patriotism, and collaboration among government, the private sector, civil society, and citizens in advancing national peace, progress, and prosperity.

The government noted that the theme reflects Nigeria’s resilience since independence in 1960 and aligns with the Renewed Hope Agenda to consolidate past gains while striving for greater achievements.
