The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has called on residents of Abuja to uphold the values of peace, compassion, and unity as Muslims around the world celebrate Eid-el-Maulud, the birth of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).

In his goodwill message on Friday, Wike extended warm greetings on behalf of the FCT Administration, describing the day as a reminder of the Prophet’s teachings of acceptance, love, and kindness.

“Eid-el-Maulud is not just a celebration of the birth of Prophet Muhammad, it is an opportunity for us to come together as residents of the FCT to uphold our commitment to values of acceptance, love and kindness that the Prophet preached,” he said. “It is a time to remember the importance of compassion and the virtues of togetherness that should guide our interactions with one another irrespective of our beliefs.”

The minister commended FCT residents for their commitment to peace and harmony, noting that their cooperation has enabled his administration to achieve progress since assuming office. He also expressed gratitude to law enforcement agencies, healthcare professionals, and essential service providers for keeping the city safe and functional.

Reiterating his administration’s priorities, Wike said the FCTA would continue to focus on infrastructure development, security, healthcare, and emergency services to enhance the quality of life in the capital. He urged residents to complement these efforts by obeying traffic laws, paying taxes, and performing civic duties.

“As we celebrate this day, I urge you all to extend a hand of friendship, reach out to your neighbors, regardless of their background or beliefs, and foster a sense of community,” he added. “I also implore you to use this auspicious occasion to pray for the success of our President, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, whose support for the FCT Administration has been invaluable.”

Eid-el-Maulud is observed annually in Nigeria with prayers, lectures, and community service. The celebration often serves as a platform for political leaders to advocate for national unity and peaceful coexistence in a country marked by ethnic and religious diversity.

This year’s commemoration comes as the FCT Administration intensifies infrastructure projects and reforms to address population growth, security challenges, and the need for improved public services. The Federal Government has also reaffirmed its support for Abuja’s development as the nation’s capital.
