The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) announced on Sunday that it had carried out an airstrike targeting a Hezbollah facility in southern Lebanon.
In a statement, the Israeli military disclosed, “A short while ago, the IDF (army) struck military infrastructure, including underground infrastructure, at a Hezbollah site in which military activity was identified, in the area of the Beaufort Ridge in southern Lebanon.”
The statement further noted that, “The existence of the site and the activity within it constitute a violation of the understandings between Israel and Lebanon.”

The incident comes amid ongoing tensions between Israel and the Iran-backed Hezbollah movement. Following the Gaza war, both sides engaged in more than a year of intermittent clashes, which eventually escalated into two months of open confrontation last year.
In November, a ceasefire was reached with the aim of ending the cycle of violence. As part of that agreement, Lebanon’s army began deploying forces in the southern region, dismantling Hezbollah’s military structures with the backing of UN peacekeepers.

Despite the truce, Israel has continued to launch strikes on Hezbollah positions in Lebanon. Israeli officials maintain that these operations will persist until Hezbollah is fully disarmed.
Meanwhile, under mounting pressure from the United States, Beirut has instructed the Lebanese military to develop a comprehensive strategy to disarm Hezbollah before the year ends. However, the group has vowed to resist any attempts to strip it of its weapons, setting the stage for further political and security tensions in the region.
