Nigeria’s President Bola Tinubu was on Monday accorded full military honours during an official ceremony at the Planalto Palace in Brasília.
The event, which took place at the presidential seat of power, was hosted by Brazil’s President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, who formally received the Nigerian leader.
According to a statement released by Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the reception included the traditional military parade reserved for visiting heads of state. Onanuga shared details of the development on X, highlighting the significance of the welcome.
“Brazil’s President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva welcomed President Bola Tinubu with full military honours at the Planalto Palace in Brasília on Monday, August 25, 2025,” he wrote.
The occasion underscored the strengthening of diplomatic relations between Nigeria and Brazil, with both leaders expected to engage in high-level talks during Tinubu’s visit.
