Viktor Gyokeres opened his Arsenal account in style, netting twice as the Gunners thrashed Leeds United 5-0 at the Emirates, handing the newly promoted side a tough lesson in Premier League football.
Despite the emphatic win, there was concern for Mikel Arteta as Bukayo Saka and Martin Odegaard both limped off with injuries just over a week before a crucial clash with Liverpool.
The result lifted Arsenal to the top of the Premier League on goal difference ahead of rivals Tottenham, with both sides maintaining a perfect start to the season.

Jurrien Timber put Arsenal in front before Odegaard exited after a heavy fall. Saka quickly doubled the lead with a powerful strike, while Gyokeres showed why Arsenal invested £66 million in him, scoring a superb solo effort and later converting a penalty. Timber also grabbed a second from a Declan Rice corner as Leeds struggled to cope with Arsenal’s set-piece threat.
The game also saw a special moment for 15-year-old Max Dowman, who became the second youngest Premier League player in history. His late trickery won a penalty, which Gyokeres converted to seal the rout.
However, the celebrations were dampened by fears over the fitness of Odegaard and Saka, who has a history of hamstring issues.
