The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has commenced another round of project commissioning and flag-offs, beginning with the rehabilitation of the Phase 2 Water Treatment Plant at the Lower Usuma Dam in Ushafa, Bwari Area Council.

This latest effort comes barely six weeks after Wike concluded a 16-day series of project inaugurations across the FCT, which ended on July 3.

A schedule released by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication and Social Media revealed that the minister will on Wednesday flag off the construction and expansion of water supply to satellite towns, starting with Bwari Township in Bwari Area Council.

The exercise will continue on Thursday with the flag-off of water projects in Karu town and surrounding communities within the Abuja Municipal Area Council.

The minister had earlier highlighted the importance of these initiatives while commissioning the Greater Abuja Water Supply Project on June 16. At that time, he disclosed that the FCT Administration signed a new agreement during President Bola Tinubu’s 2023 visit to China.

The deal, according to him, is designed to extend water supply to satellite communities such as Bwari, Kubwa, and Karu. He further assured that procurement processes for the projects were almost completed and pledged timely execution.

What you should know
Nyesom Wike, Nigeria’s current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory and former governor of Rivers State, has been spearheading major infrastructure projects in Abuja since his appointment.

His recent focus on water projects is part of a broader plan to improve access to potable water for residents, particularly those living in satellite towns that have historically struggled with basic amenities.
