The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has launched a detailed inquiry into an incident involving renowned Fuji artist, Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, popularly known as K1 De Ultimate, at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja.

According to FAAN, the incident occurred on Tuesday while the singer was boarding a Lagos-bound flight operated by ValueJet Airlines. In a statement released by FAAN’s spokesperson, Obiageli Orah, the agency alleged that the musician caused a disruption after attempting to board the aircraft with a flask containing an unidentified liquid, later determined to be alcohol. Despite being cautioned several times by aviation security personnel and the aircraft’s captain, the musician reportedly refused to comply with the directives.

FAAN disclosed that the passenger had been warned about boarding with liquid substances, in accordance with aviation safety regulations. However, he allegedly resisted the order. As boarding procedures continued, an airline security official approached the singer for further clarification. Rather than cooperate, the artist was said to have spilled the liquid on the officer, which was subsequently confirmed to be alcohol. Efforts by the flight captain to de-escalate the situation were reportedly met with the same resistance.

Tensions on board reportedly escalated when K1 De Ultimate proceeded to the front of the aircraft and refused to vacate the area, forcing security personnel to step in and remove him from the plane.

FAAN emphasized that it will not condone any behavior that jeopardizes airport operations or breaches aviation safety protocols, regardless of the identity or social status of those involved. The agency reaffirmed its commitment to upholding the highest standards of safety and operational discipline.

While the investigation remains ongoing, FAAN stated that anyone found responsible for violating regulations will face appropriate legal consequences. In a related development, the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has taken disciplinary action by suspending two pilots from ValueJet Airlines who were linked to the unfolding situation, citing what it described as a serious violation of safety standards.

What you should know

The unfolding investigation involving K1 De Ultimate underscores FAAN’s insistence on strict adherence to aviation laws, regardless of a passenger’s prominence.

The suspension of two ValueJet pilots further signals the seriousness with which aviation authorities are treating the incident.
