President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, has pledged the Senate’s commitment to work with relevant government and security agencies to halt the persistent killings in Plateau State.

Akpabio made the pledge during the funeral of Professor Janet Plang, wife of Senator Diket Plang, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Labour and Productivity. The service was held on Friday at the Church of Christ in Nations (COCIN) headquarters in Jos.

Responding to Governor Caleb Mutfwang’s plea for federal intervention, Akpabio said the Senate heard the concerns of the Plateau people “loud and clear” and assured them of urgent legislative and executive attention.

“As the President of the 10th Senate, I hear you loud and clear and be assured that your travails will be given the needed attention and response from the relevant agencies. The Egyptians you see today, you shall see them no more,” Akpabio stated in a message delivered by his Special Assistant on Media, Jackson Udom.

He also extended condolences to the people and government of Plateau State. “I assure you that your message will be delivered to President Bola Tinubu, and something will be done very urgently to protect the lives and property of the people living in this state,” he said.

Paying tribute to the late Professor Plang, Akpabio described her as a “quintessential woman and mother” who embodied love for humanity and imparted the same in her children.

“On behalf of the 10th Senate, I pray for the repose of her soul and may God grant her family and all who knew her the fortitude to bear this irreplaceable loss,” he said.

Also speaking at the service, Dr. (Mrs.) Unoma Godswill Akpabio, President of the Senators’ Wives Association of Nigeria (SEWAN), described Professor Plang as a committed and integral member of the Association who chaired its Committee on Education.

“She carried out her assignments with strength and vigour. It was her committee that enabled SEWAN to support the education of 15 indigent students at the University of Abuja. Her candor and commitment to our progress will be deeply missed. May her soul rest in perfect peace,” she said.
