The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has scheduled its national elective convention to take place on November 15 and 16, 2025, in Ibadan, Oyo State.
This decision was reached during the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held on Thursday in Abuja.
According to the communique released at the end of the meeting, “NEC approved the year 2025 Elective National Convention Schedule of Activities and Timetable. Under the approved Timetable, the Elective National Convention to elect the next set of National Officers of our Party will hold on Saturday, 15th to Sunday, 16th November, 2025 in Ibadan, the Oyo State Capital.”
The NEC emphasized the party’s unity and stability, reiterating its position as the foremost opposition party prepared to rally Nigerians against what it described as the “catastrophic misrule of the All Progressives Congress (APC).”
The committee instructed the National Chairman, Iliya Damagum, and the National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, to notify the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of the convention’s details in accordance with the Electoral Act, 2022, and political party regulations.
It also endorsed the composition of the National Convention Committee and the Zoning Committee to ensure the process is transparent and credible.
In a firm stance on party loyalty, the NEC directed the National Working Committee to pursue legal measures to retrieve seats from lawmakers who were elected under the PDP but have defected to other political parties. It referenced Sections 68 (1)(g) and 109 (1)(g) of the Constitution, noting that such individuals have “irredeemably lost their seats.”
Furthermore, the NEC expressed concern over some members’ alleged involvement with rival parties and urged them to reaffirm their allegiance to the PDP. The committee assured them that efforts were ongoing to resolve any internal issues.
The PDP NEC concluded by reaffirming its commitment to democratic values and its readiness to lead Nigerians in reclaiming power from the APC in 2027, promising a more people-focused governance.
The next NEC meeting is scheduled for Monday, August 25, 2025.
