The late former President Muhammadu Buhari will be laid to rest on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, in his hometown of Daura, Katsina State.

His Janazah (Islamic burial rites) is scheduled for 2:00 p.m., shortly after the arrival of his remains at 12 noon.

The details were confirmed during a press briefing by Governor Dikko Umaru Radda, who said the arrangements were finalized in consultation with the deceased’s family and associates in London, where the former president passed away after a prolonged illness.

Buhari’s death has triggered a wave of national mourning, with tributes pouring in from across political, religious, and ethnic lines.

“We pray Almighty Allah to grant his soul eternal rest and reward him with Aljannatul Firdaus,” Governor Radda stated.

“On behalf of the government and people of Katsina State, we extend heartfelt condolences to the Buhari family, to all Nigerians, and to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on this monumental loss.”

The Katsina State Government, in conjunction with federal authorities and Buhari’s family, is coordinating preparations to ensure a dignified farewell for the statesman, who served Nigeria first as military Head of State (1983–1985) and later as civilian President (2015–2023).

Buhari’s burial is expected to draw top government officials, diplomats, and dignitaries from within and outside the country.

What you should know

Muhammadu Buhari leaves behind a legacy defined by military discipline, civilian governance, and an anti-corruption mantra that shaped his political career. His burial in Daura will mark the end of a significant chapter in Nigeria’s post-independence leadership.
