Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barr. Nyesom Wike has thrown a direct challenge to prominent members of the newly formed African Democratic Congress (ADC) coalition, urging them to reveal their achievements while in public office.
Speaking on Friday during the commissioning of the newly rehabilitated Aguma–Radio Nigeria–New Market Road in Gwagwalada Area Council, Wike accused former leaders such as Atiku Abubakar, Senator David Mark, Rotimi Amaechi, Nasir El-Rufai, and others of engaging in “cheap propaganda” in their attempt to return to power.
“God gave you opportunity to be in office to make Nigerians happy, but you refused. Now you’ve left office, you’re angry, saying Nigerians are angry. No! You are the one angry because you want to come back to power—you won’t come back,” Wike stated.
He emphasized that under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, the FCT had seen tangible progress, boasting that the government has commissioned one project after another for 16 consecutive days.
Wike declared this period as “operation show your scorecard”, stating that every public figure eyeing power should lay bare their past records.
“When I was Senate President, let me show my scorecard. How did I help the people of Benue State? How did I help the people of Otukpo? Is it by flying helicopter to Otukpo?” he said, in an apparent jab at former Senate President David Mark.
He also took aim at other unnamed politicians, referencing his own past political victories:
“2015, I defeated a powerful governor who wanted to impose a successor. 2019, a super minister borrowing money everywhere — I defeated him too. Even the DG to Mr. President back then couldn’t get 20% for his candidate.”
In a sarcastic tone, Wike mocked the consistency of some politicians who frequently switch parties or coalitions:
“They say, ‘from 1999 I’m in this party,’ then 2006 another party, 2014 another party, now 2025 another coalition. Dem born you born coalition?” he quipped.
Wike’s outburst adds to the escalating political tension between the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the opposition coalition ahead of the 2027 general elections.
