Real Madrid secured a narrow 1-0 victory over Juventus at the Hard Rock Stadium on Tuesday, with Gonzalo Garcia’s second-half header proving decisive in their Club World Cup Round of 16 encounter.

The win booked Madrid a place in the quarter-finals, where they will face the winner of the tie between Borussia Dortmund and Monterrey. It also marked the return of star forward Kylian Mbappe, who came on as a 68th-minute substitute after recovering from illness, much to the delight of the over 62,000 fans in attendance.

The match began with Juventus showing early promise. Randal Kolo Muani nearly gave the Italian side the lead following a clever setup from Kenan Yildiz, but his attempted chip over goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois sailed wide. Yildiz himself came close moments later with a powerful run and a deflected shot.

However, Real Madrid gradually asserted control. Jude Bellingham tested Juve keeper Michele Di Gregorio, and Federico Valverde fired a long-range effort that forced another save. Trent Alexander-Arnold also posed a threat with a dangerous low cross just before the break.

The momentum remained with Madrid in the second half. Bellingham continued to create, setting up Valverde for a shot that narrowly missed before drawing another save with a strike of his own. With Real applying constant pressure, it was Gonzalo Garcia who finally broke the deadlock in the 54th minute, heading home Alexander-Arnold’s cross for his third goal in four matches.

Juventus didn’t back down—Francisco Conceicao forced a low save from Courtois, and Nicolas Gonzalez narrowly missed the target from long range. But despite their persistence, the Italian side couldn’t find an equaliser.

Madrid had chances to extend their lead, with Valverde’s acrobatic effort and Arda Guler’s sharp shot both denied by Di Gregorio. In the end, Garcia’s goal was enough to carry Xabi Alonso’s side into the next round.
