The All Progressives Congress (APC) has confirmed that it is actively consulting to replace its former National Chairman, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, who resigned on June 27, 2025, to attend to “urgent and important personal matters.”

Speaking on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics on June 29, 2025, APC National Publicity Secretary Felix Morka announced that the party is moving swiftly to fill the leadership void.

“This is an extraordinary situation where the National Chairman of our party has resigned, and we will take steps immediately to fill that vacancy,” Morka said, noting that the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting will be convened soon to initiate constitutional procedures for electing a new chairman.

While no date has been set, Morka emphasized urgency, stating, “Really soon. We’ve been consulting, and there are a lot of stakeholders required for NEC to convene. As we speak, that process has been triggered, and consultations are ongoing.” He expressed confidence that a date would be finalized shortly to continue Ganduje’s work.

Deputy National Chairman (North), Ali Bukar Dalori, was appointed Acting National Chairman by President Bola Tinubu, pending the NEC’s election of a substantive replacement.

Morka dismissed speculation about former Kano Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso joining the APC, saying, “The party I speak for has said nothing about Kwankwaso possibly joining. We have not made that determination and are not able to make it at the moment.” He also rejected claims of internal dysfunction, asserting, “The party is running as it should run. People are entitled to have their moments, but that does not indicate dysfunction.”

Addressing reports that Tinubu was dissatisfied with Ganduje before his resignation, Morka called such claims speculative, noting, “The President is at liberty to speak at any moment on any issue. He has not spoken, so people will speculate. But we cannot act based on speculation.”

Ganduje, who served as Kano State Governor from 2015 to 2023, became APC National Chairman in August 2023, succeeding Abdullahi Adamu. His tenure faced criticism over alleged breaches of the party’s zoning arrangements, as Adamu hailed from the North Central zone, while Ganduje is from the North-West.

Following his resignation, Ganduje was appointed Chairman of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) in January 2025 and is reportedly under consideration for a non-career ambassadorial role.
