A damning report published by Air Mail on Saturday, June 7, has brought forth allegations from nine women accusing Oscar-winning actor and musician Jared Leto of inappropriate and predatory behavior spanning nearly two decades.
The accusations, which include claims of sexual impropriety with underage girls, have sparked widespread controversy and cast a shadow over the 53-year-old star’s public image.
The Air Mail report details disturbing accounts from multiple women, several of whom claim Leto engaged in inappropriate interactions with them when they were teenagers. One woman, who was 16 in 2006, alleges that Leto approached her outside a Los Angeles café where he was seated with actress Ashley Olsen, then 19.
According to her account, Leto grabbed her arm and initiated a conversation that led to him obtaining her phone number. “I looked down and it was Jared Leto,” she told Air Mail. Days later, she claims, Leto called her home and invited her to a party at his house. “I didn’t even have a driver’s license,” she said, explaining why she declined.
However, she alleges that Leto persisted, calling her repeatedly in the early hours of the morning—sometimes at 1, 2, or 3 a.m.—and that their conversations took a disturbing turn. “He’d ask things like, ‘Have you ever had a boyfriend? she recounted, describing his tone as “weirdest, grossest.”
Another woman, model Laura La Rue, shared a similar experience from 2008, when she was 16. At an event in a private Beverly Hills residence, La Rue claims Leto, then 36, watched her “so intensely” that it made her uncomfortable. After asking her age and learning she was 16, Leto allegedly requested her phone number, initiating an email correspondence.
By April 2009, La Rue visited Leto’s home, where she says he flirted with her in a teasing manner, leaning in close and pulling away “like it was a game.” Leto’s representative denied these claims, asserting to Air Mail that the interactions were neither sexual nor inappropriate and noting that La Rue later applied to work as Leto’s assistant, which they argue indicates no impropriety occurred.
The most alarming accusation comes from a woman who claims she had a texting relationship with Leto while still underage. She alleges that during visits to his home, Leto asked inappropriate questions. She further claims that when she was 18, Leto exposed himself and coerced her into touching him. These graphic allegations paint a troubling picture of behavior that, if true, crosses serious ethical and legal boundaries.
Adding to the chorus of accusers is Los Angeles-based DJ and music producer Allie Teilz, who recently resurfaced a 2012 Facebook post on Instagram, writing, “Youre [sic] not really in L.A. until Jared Leto tries to force himself on you backstage… In a kilt.. And a snow hat.” In her Instagram Stories, reviewed by Air Mail, Teilz elaborated, stating, I was assaulted and traumatized by this creep when I was 17 … He knew my age and didn’t care.
What he did was predatory, terrifying, and unacceptable. Leto’s representative has denied Teilz’s allegations, calling them “demonstrably false.”
Leto, known for his roles in films like Dallas Buyers Club—for which he won an Academy Award—and his work as the frontman of the band Thirty Seconds to Mars, has swiftly denied all allegations through his representatives.
In a statement issued shortly after the Air Mail report surfaced, Leto’s team categorically rejected the claims, asserting that the accusations are baseless and lack credibility.
However, the volume and consistency of the allegations, spanning from 2006 to more recent years, raise significant questions about the actor’s conduct.
The allegations come at a time when Hollywood continues to grapple with the fallout of the #MeToo movement, which has exposed patterns of predatory behavior by powerful figures in the entertainment industry.
Leto’s case, if substantiated, could further fuel discussions about accountability, particularly regarding interactions with minors. Legal experts note that some of the alleged actions, if proven, could potentially lead to criminal charges, though statutes of limitations may complicate prosecution for older incidents.
As of now, no formal charges have been filed against Leto, and the allegations remain under public scrutiny rather than legal investigation. The Air Mail report has prompted a swift reaction on social media, with fans and critics alike debating the credibility of the claims and Leto’s response.
Some have expressed shock and disappointment, while others have called for a thorough investigation to establish the truth.
