Pastor Enoch Adeboye, the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), has revealed that God gave him a stern warning never to leave the church, saying his firstborn would die if he did.
He made this revelation during the June edition of the RCCG Holy Ghost Service, held at the Redemption City of God in Ogun State, in the early hours of Saturday, June 7. Themed “Destined for Greatness (Part 2),” the service centered on spiritual direction and commitment.
Citing a sermon previously delivered by his son, Pastor Leke Adeboye, the elder Adeboye expressed concern over the growing trend among young Christians who frequently hop from one church to another, constantly presenting themselves as first-time visitors.
“When I got born again, there were three major ministries that were making waves, and they were very good,” he recalled. “There were different temptations to go from one to another. But God said to me, ‘Son, I brought you here. This is where you will stay. The day you leave this denomination, your firstborn will die.’”
Adeboye described RCCG as relatively obscure at the time, with its headquarters in a small building in Ebute-Metta, Lagos. He added that despite being a university lecturer, he submitted to his spiritual father, who had no formal education, because God instructed him to do so.
“I was a lecturer at the university. My father in the Lord didn’t go to secondary school, not even primary. But God said this is where you will stay,” he said.
He encouraged members, especially the youth, to seek divine direction and remain where God has planted them. “Discover where God wants you to stay, and stay there,” he advised.
Adeboye was careful to clarify that his message was not meant to suggest that RCCG is superior to other Christian denominations. “I am not saying we are better than any other denomination,” he stressed.
