Peter Okoye Disowns Brothers in Explosive Social Media Outburst

In a dramatic escalation of a long-simmering family feud, Peter Okoye, one-half of the iconic Nigerian music duo P-Square, has publicly disowned his brothers, Jude and Paul Okoye, in a series of scathing social media posts that have sent shockwaves through the Nigerian entertainment industry.

The singer, known for his dynamic performances and chart-topping hits, accused his brothers of orchestrating a smear campaign against him while defending his past support for dancehall artist Cynthia Morgan, who previously alleged mistreatment by Jude Okoye’s record label.

The controversy erupted on the night of June 4, when Peter took to his social media platforms to air his grievances. In a fiery post, he alleged that his brothers had hired publicists to tarnish his reputation and portray him as a liar. “They paid people to make me look bad,” Peter wrote, adding emphatically, “I am not May D or Cynthia Morgan.”

The statement referenced two artists formerly signed to Jude Okoye’s Northside Entertainment, both of whom publicly accused the label of unfair treatment after their exits.

May D and Cynthia Morgan, both once-promising talents under Northside Entertainment, parted ways with the label under contentious circumstances. In 2012, May D claimed he was dropped without proper compensation or support, while Cynthia Morgan, in 2016, alleged that Jude Okoye’s mismanagement derailed her career, including issues over royalties and creative control.

At the time, Peter remained largely silent, a fact that drew criticism from fans and industry observers alike when he began addressing the issue years later.

Following Peter’s recent posts, Nigerians took to social media to slam the singer for what they perceived as selective outrage. “Where was this energy when May D and Cynthia were crying out?” one user commented on X, echoing a sentiment shared by many who felt Peter only spoke up when the accusations directly affected him.

In response, Peter shared archived posts from 2020, in which he expressed support for Cynthia Morgan, seemingly attempting to counter the narrative that he had ignored her plight.

In a series of follow-up posts, Peter dropped a bombshell, declaring, “iDisOwnThem,” a clear reference to his brothers, Jude and Paul Okoye. The rift between the Okoye brothers is not new—P-Square, once Africa’s most celebrated music duo, has weathered multiple breakups and reconciliations over the years.

However, Peter’s latest accusations strike a deeply personal chord, as he claimed that Jude’s wife, Ifeoma Okoye, owned “80% of the company that diverted P-Square’s proceeds for years.” He further alleged that his brothers had deliberately shifted blame onto his wife, Lola Omotayo Okoye, to deflect scrutiny from their actions.

“Now you all are shocked and surprised to see my tweet on Cynthia Morgan after so many years because some of you were blinded by the narrative they created and made you believe my wife was the problem,” Peter wrote. “Meanwhile, it was his wife who owned 80% of the company that diverted PSQUARE’s proceeds for years. Imagine if it were my wife, Lola; by now, the media would have been using her as a headline.”

The singer concluded his tirade with a defiant pledge to continue speaking out, writing, “I will continue speaking my truth. #UnaThiefAbiUnaNoThief #FamilyDoesNotStealFromFamily #iDisownThem.”

The allegations have reignited debates about the inner workings of P-Square and the broader challenges of family-run businesses in the Nigerian entertainment industry.

Fans of the duo, who have followed their music since the early 2000s, expressed a mix of disappointment and frustration. “P-Square was a symbol of unity and success. Seeing them tear each other apart like this is heartbreaking,” said Tolu Adebayo, a longtime fan based in Lagos.

Industry insiders, meanwhile, noted that the public fallout could have lasting implications for the P-Square brand, which has struggled to maintain its dominance in recent years amid internal conflicts. “This level of public airing of dirty laundry rarely ends well,” said music executive Chidi Okeke. “It’s not just about the brothers—it affects their legacy, their business, and their fanbase.”

P-Square, formed by twin brothers Peter and Paul Okoye, rose to fame with hits like “Bizzy Body,” “Do Me,” and “Chop My Money,” becoming one of Africa’s most successful musical acts.

However, their career has been marred by recurring disputes, often involving their elder brother and former manager, Jude Okoye. The group briefly split in 2016 before reuniting in 2021, but the latest developments suggest that reconciliation may be a distant prospect

As of press time, neither Jude nor Paul Okoye had publicly responded to Peter’s allegations. The silence from their camp has only fueled speculation, with fans and analysts awaiting the next chapter in this unfolding saga.

Peter’s decision to disown his brothers and air such explosive claims marks a new low in the P-Square saga, raising questions about the future of one of Nigeria’s most beloved musical dynasties.

For now, the spotlight remains on Peter Okoye as he vows to continue “speaking his truth,” leaving fans to wonder whether the family rift can ever be mended.
