Jadon Sancho to Return to Manchester United as Chelsea Loan Deal Collapses

Jadon Sancho is set to return to Manchester United after Chelsea opted not to make his loan move permanent, with the two parties failing to agree on personal terms, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

Posting on X on June 3, Romano revealed, “BREAKING: Jadon Sancho leaves Chelsea as there’s no agreement on personal terms. Chelsea will pay £5m penalty clause and Jadon returns to Manchester United. Story over between Sancho and #CFC, now ready for new move in the summer window”.

The decision ends Sancho’s 2024/25 season at Stamford Bridge, where he scored five goals and provided 10 assists in 41 appearances, and sets the stage for a potential new transfer in the summer.

Sancho, 24, joined Chelsea on a season-long loan from Manchester United in August 2024, with an obligation to buy for £20–25 million if the Blues finished 14th or higher in the Premier League, a condition met with their fourth-place standing.

However, a clause allowed Chelsea to back out by paying a £5 million penalty, triggered due to unresolved salary disputes, with Chelsea unwilling to match Sancho’s £250,000–£350,000 weekly wages at United.

Despite a bright start under Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca, including three assists in his first three games and a goal in the Europa Conference League final, Sancho’s form dipped, with only one goal contribution in his last 16 matches.

Manchester United, under new manager Ruben Amorim, had no plans to reintegrate Sancho, having prioritized his sale since 2023 after a fallout with former boss Erik ten Hag, per United in Focus.

Romano noted that only an “absolutely crazy” scenario driven by Amorim could see Sancho stay, but United’s focus remains on offloading him, potentially to Borussia Dortmund or Serie A clubs, for around £40 million.

Chelsea’s decision aligns with their squad overhaul, with incoming wingers like Estevao and Quenda reducing Sancho’s role.

What you should know
Jadon Sancho will return to Manchester United after Chelsea declined to pay his £25 million permanent transfer fee, opting for a £5 million penalty due to salary disputes.

His 2024/25 Chelsea stint ends with five goals and 10 assists, but United plan to sell him in the summer, with no clear role under Amorim, signaling another chapter in his turbulent career.
