Joe Biden has publicly thanked Americans for their outpouring of “love and support” after revealing he had been diagnosed with an “aggressive” form of prostate cancer that has spread to his bones.

The 82-year-old former US president shared his gratitude in a heartfelt message posted Monday on X, alongside a photo of himself and his wife, Jill. “Cancer touches us all. Like so many of you, Jill and I have learned that we are strongest in the broken places,” he wrote. “Thank you for lifting us up with love and support.”

Biden, whose son Beau Biden died of cancer in 2015, was diagnosed last Friday after experiencing urinary symptoms. A statement from his office confirmed the presence of a prostate nodule and described the cancer as hormone-sensitive, allowing for effective management. The family is currently exploring treatment options with medical professionals.

The announcement sparked nationwide sympathy, with well-wishes pouring in from citizens and public figures alike, including President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris. Despite their political rivalry, Trump said he was “saddened” by the news and offered his “warmest and best wishes” to the Biden family, expressing hope for a speedy recovery.

Prostate cancer remains the most common cancer among men in the US, according to the American Cancer Society. While early detection leads to high treatability, the disease remains the second leading cause of cancer-related deaths in men. Hormone therapy, while effective in slowing the spread, is not considered a cure.
