The 11th edition of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA), held on May 10, 2025, at the Eko Convention Centre in Lagos, was a night of glamour, celebration, and jaw-dropping fashion moments.
Among the star-studded attendees, Nollywood veteran and politician Desmond Elliot stole the spotlight with an outfit that sparked a social media frenzy and ignited conversations.
His flamboyant black two-piece ensemble, featuring a shirt and a voluminous skirt adorned with a bold elephant imprint, was anything but conventional.
In an exclusive interview with Saturday Beats, Elliot attributed his daring fashion choice to a personal journey through what he described as a “midlife crisis,” offering a glimpse into the deeper meaning behind his headline-making look.
Elliot opened up about the inspiration behind his unconventional choice, revealing an introspective side to his sartorial statement. “I am more in politics now, and it means the few times you have the opportunity, just come out different,” he explained.
Don’t make too much noise, but let people see a lot of noise in what you are doing. It could go two ways. It could be good, or you could totally mess it up. Life is about taking chances, and at 50, you have to take bold chances. he said.
Elliot had celebrated his 50th birthday earlier this year. When asked if he was emerging from this phase, he quipped, “That is if I am not still in it.”
This candid admission added a layer of vulnerability to his bold fashion move, suggesting that the outfit was not just a publicity stunt but a reflection of a man navigating a transformative period in his life.
The elephant imprint, a central feature of the ensemble, held particular significance. “What gives me confidence now is the fact that I have an elephant imprint, which has always been my watchword because of what the elephant stands for—power, strength, loyalty, stability, and love,” Elliot shared.
