The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has taken down the name of Ellie Bitar of CBEX Solutions Ltd. from its list of wanted individuals, after uncovering new evidence that clears him of any involvement in the large-scale crypto scam tied to the controversial Crypto Bridge Exchange.
This update comes as the Commission steps up its investigation into what it calls a “monumental fraud,” allegedly carried out by several actors through CBEX, a digital asset exchange accused of deceiving numerous investors.
In a statement released on Wednesday, the EFCC said, “Ellie Bitar of CBEX Solutions Ltd., who was earlier declared wanted, has since been removed from the list owing to new information that does not support his inclusion in the wanted person’s list.”
While the Commission did not reveal the specifics of the new findings, it stated that the ongoing investigation continues to uncover crucial information.
At the moment, eight suspects remain on the EFCC’s wanted list in connection with the same fraud case.
Those listed are: Seyi Oloyede, Emmanuel Uko, Adefowora Oluwanisola, Adefowora Abiodun Olanipekun, Johnson Okiroh Ofienolu, Israel Mbalika, Joseph Michiro Kabera, and Serah Michiro.
“The EFCC is gaining important ground in its search for eight wanted persons implicated in the fraud,”the statement added.
The agency confirmed it is collaborating with law enforcement bodies worldwide to locate and bring the remaining suspects to justice.
“Law enforcement agencies across the world are collaborating with it in tracking and arresting all the wanted persons. The EFCC will not relent in bringing every actor involved in the fraudulent dealings to book,” the Commission stated.
