Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan appeared at the Federal High Court in Abuja on Tuesday ahead of proceedings regarding Senate President Godswill Akpabio’s claim that she had defied a court order.

Justice Binta Nyako had scheduled the hearing after setting today as the date to address Akpabio’s claim against the Kogi Central senator. The court will also hear a prior contempt charge filed by Akpoti-Uduaghan against Akpabio, the Senate, and others for allegedly disregarding an earlier judicial directive.

The legal standoff between the two senators began in February after a heated disagreement over seating arrangements during a Senate plenary session.

Following the incident, Akpoti-Uduaghan publicly accused Akpabio of sexual harassment during a televised interview.

She subsequently filed a case at the Federal High Court, seeking to halt a disciplinary inquiry initiated by the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Public Petitions.

On March 4, the court granted her ex parte request and restrained the Senate from taking any disciplinary actions against her.

Despite this, the Senate moved forward with her suspension on March 6, referencing a report from the Ethics Committee that accused her of gross misconduct.

What you should know
Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan and Senate President Godswill Akpabio are locked in a legal battle involving mutual contempt allegations.

The case stems from a dispute during a Senate session, which later escalated into accusations of misconduct and sexual harassment. The court will now decide whether either party violated previous judicial orders.
