Fox has officially given the green light to The Faithful, a bold and ambitious six-episode biblical drama set to premiere in Spring 2026.

The series, which draws inspiration from the Book of Genesis in the Old Testament, will center on five iconic women: Sarah, Hagar, Rebekah, Leah, and Rachel, offering a fresh, female-driven perspective on timeless stories of faith, resilience, and sacrifice.

The announcement, made earlier today, has already sparked buzz in the entertainment industry, with insiders praising Fox’s commitment to innovative storytelling and strong, character-driven narratives.

The Faithful is helmed by a seasoned creative team, led by executive producer Carol Mendelsohn, a television veteran best known for her work as showrunner on CSI: Crime Scene Investigation and for co-creating its spin-offs, CSI: Miami, CSI: NY, and CSI: Cyber.

Mendelsohn’s track record for crafting compelling, character-focused dramas makes her a natural fit for this project, which promises to blend historical gravitas with modern emotional resonance. Joining her is executive producer Julie Weitz, whose experience in producing nuanced, high-stakes dramas adds further depth to the production.

Unlike traditional biblical adaptations that often focus on male prophets or patriarchs, The Faithful flips the script by centering on the women of Genesis. Sarah, the matriarch who grapples with faith and infertility; Hagar, the marginalized servant who finds strength in adversity; Rebekah, the determined mother who shapes her family’s destiny; and Leah and Rachel, sisters navigating love and rivalry, will anchor the series.

Their stories, interwoven across six episodes, will explore universal themes of family, loyalty, sacrifice, and survival against the backdrop of a richly realized ancient world.

Industry analysts see The Faithful as part of a broader trend in television, where networks are increasingly investing in stories that highlight underrepresented voices in familiar genres. “Fox is taking a calculated risk here, but it’s a smart one,” said television critic Emily Harper. “Biblical dramas have a built-in audience, but by focusing on these women, they’re tapping into a fresh angle that could resonate widely.”

Early reactions to the announcement have been overwhelmingly positive, particularly on social media platforms like X, where posts from industry insiders and fans alike have hailed The Faithful as a “powerful” and “groundbreaking” addition to the biblical drama genre.

The greenlighting of The Faithful comes at a time when networks are doubling down on event-style programming to capture fragmented audiences. Described as a “three-week biblical event series” by some sources, the show is poised to be a cornerstone of Fox’s 2026 spring schedule, likely airing in a condensed, high-impact format designed to generate buzz and sustain viewer engagement.

WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW

Fox’s decision to back The Faithful also reflects the network’s ongoing push to diversify its portfolio.

Fox’s greenlight of The Faithful signals a confident step into uncharted territory. Come spring 2026, viewers will have the chance to witness the stories of Sarah, Hagar, Rebekah, Leah, and Rachel reimagined for a new era, a testament to the timeless strength of the women who helped shape the foundations of faith.
