50 Cent Takes Baby Mama to Court Over Life Story Rights Breach

The long-running legal battle between hip-hop mogul Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson and his former partner Shaniqua Tompkins has escalated to federal court, with Jackson’s publishing company filing a breach of contract lawsuit seeking at least $1 million in damages.

G-Unit Books, the publishing arm of 50 Cent’s entertainment empire, alleges that Tompkins violated a 2007 agreement that granted the company exclusive rights to her life story. According to court documents, Tompkins was paid $80,000 under the deal and promised future royalties.

The lawsuit centers on Tompkins’ recent social media activity, which G-Unit claims represents a direct breach of her contractual obligations. The company alleges that Tompkins agreed nearly two decades ago to refrain from publicly disclosing, exploiting, or commercializing any aspect of her life story or related rights.

The legal dispute was triggered by a series of public statements and social media posts by Tompkins, beginning with a 2023 YouTube video titled “Other Side of the Coin.” In the video, Tompkins claimed to reveal “the untold truth of how she helped to build the G-Unit legacy and how Curtis ’50-Cent’ Jackson wouldn’t be who he is today without her.”

The situation intensified recently when Tompkins allegedly leveraged speculation surrounding the high-profile federal trial of Sean “Diddy” Combs to boost her online presence. Court documents indicate that Tompkins posted on Instagram last month, writing what the lawsuit describes as attention-seeking content that capitalized on public interest in the Diddy case.

This legal action represents the latest chapter in a protracted and highly publicized feud between Jackson and Tompkins, who share a 28-year-old son, Marquise Jackson. Their relationship, which began in the 1990s and ended in 2008, has been marked by numerous legal battles, including previous disputes over child support, custody arrangements, and property rights.

The case highlights the increasingly complex legal landscape surrounding celebrity relationships and intellectual property rights in the digital age. As social media platforms provide new avenues for individuals to monetize their personal stories and connections to famous figures, entertainment companies are becoming more aggressive in protecting contractual agreements that govern such rights.

G-Unit Books is not only seeking substantial monetary damages but also requesting that the court issue an injunction preventing Tompkins from posting additional social media content about her relationship with 50 Cent. G-Unit is suing for breach of contract and seeking at least $1 million in damages. They also want the court to stop Shaniqua from posting more videos or social content about her relationship with 50.

Representatives for Tompkins have not responded to requests for comment regarding the lawsuit. The case is expected to proceed through federal court, where it will likely hinge on the interpretation of the 2007 agreement and whether Tompkins’ recent social media activity constitutes a material breach of her contractual obligations.

This legal battle underscores the enduring tensions between Jackson and Tompkins, whose relationship has played out in the public eye for over two decades, often spilling onto social media platforms where both parties have aired their grievances.
