Former Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, has firmly denied having any presidential ambition for the 2027 election, declaring his full support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid.
In a statement released on Friday and signed by his media director, Michael Ohiare, Bello expressed shock over a resurfaced 2022 campaign video being falsely circulated as a sign that he had launched a new presidential campaign against Tinubu.
“While we state categorically that our principal, Bello, has no 2027 presidential ambition, we want to also stress his unflinching commitment to the re-election of President Tinubu come 2027,” the statement read.
Ohiare noted that the video in question clearly shows banners dated 2022, making it obvious the footage is outdated and being misrepresented for political mischief.
“The fabricators forgot that the 2022 dates are boldly written on the banners on display. Yet, they expect reasonable people not to see this as the handiwork of detractors,” he added.
Describing the video as the work of “a confused, witless mind,” Ohiare said the post is part of a recurring effort by certain individuals to pit Bello against President Tinubu.
He emphasized that such tactics are not new. “It was not the first time detractors and their co-travellers would fly absolute falsehood with the aim of setting the former governor against President Tinubu,” he said.
He warned Nigerians to be wary of desperate political actors attempting to create division, adding that the reposting of an old rally video under false pretenses was a clear act of mischief and deception.
Ohiare reiterated Bello’s stance: “The president and his team have done exceedingly well for the country, despite global challenges. On merit, he deserves the support of well-meaning Nigerians.”
