According to a spokesperson, Volvo Group is set to cut up to 800 of its workforce across its three US facilities within the next three months. citing market instability and weakened demand linked to the economic repercussions of Trump’s tariff policies.

The layoffs, affecting 550–800 employees, will impact the Mack Trucks plant in Macungie, Pennsylvania, along with Volvo Group sites in Dublin, Virginia, and Hagerstown, Maryland. The Sweden-based parent company, AB Volvo, stated that its North American operations employ approximately 20,000 workers.

In a statement, the spokesperson emphasized that layoffs are the latest response from a car and truck industry that is reeling from the Republican president’s tariffs on certain parts, which are expected to increase the cost of manufacturing vehicles.

“Heavy-duty truck orders continue to be negatively affected by market uncertainty about freight rates and demand, possible regulatory changes, and the impact of tariffs, the statement said

“We regret having to take this action, but we need to align production with reduced demand for our vehicles.”
