The United States Mission in Nigeria has reiterated its directive for visa applicants to ensure full disclosure of their social media history when filling out the DS-160 application form.
In a post shared on its official X handle, the Mission stressed that applicants must include all usernames and handles they have used on any social media platform over the past five years.
The Mission cautioned that withholding such details could have consequences for future travel to the United States. It further explained that applicants are required to confirm the accuracy of the information provided before signing and submitting the form, warning that incomplete or misleading details would not be disregarded.
“Visa applicants are required to list all social media usernames or handles of every platform they have used from the last 5 years on the DS-160 visa application form,” the Mission stated.
It further added: “Applicants certify that the information in their visa application is true and correct before they sign and submit. Omitting social media information could lead to visa denial and ineligibility for future visas.”
What you should know
The DS-160 is the standard online form required for most U.S. non-immigrant visas. The emphasis on social media disclosure reflects the U.S. government’s increasing focus on digital footprints as part of its security screening process.
Failure to provide accurate details could jeopardize both current and future visa applications.
