Prominent US right-wing activist Charlie Kirk has died after being shot during an event at a university in Utah on Wednesday.
Authorities confirmed that a suspect linked to the fatal shooting has been taken into custody. “The subject for the horrific shooting today that took the life of Charlie Kirk is now in custody. We will provide updates when able,” FBI Director Kash Patel said.

President Donald Trump, who was a close ally of Kirk, announced his death on Truth Social, describing him as “legendary.” Trump added: “The Great, and even Legendary, Charlie Kirk, is dead. No one understood or had the Heart of the Youth in the United States of America better than Charlie… He was loved and admired by ALL, especially me, and now, he is no longer with us. Melania’s and my sympathies go out to his beautiful wife, Erika, and family. Charlie, we love you!”
Kirk, 31, was a key figure in America’s conservative youth movement, best known as the founder of Turning Point USA. His fiery oratory, viral debates on college campuses, and influential podcast, The Charlie Kirk Show, made him one of the most prominent voices of the Trump-aligned right.

While praised by supporters as a fearless spokesman for young conservatives, critics labeled him a “charismatic Christian nationalist” who amplified conspiracy theories and Trump’s false claims of widespread fraud in the 2020 election.

The fatal shooting, which occurred as Kirk engaged with students in Utah, has drawn condemnation from across the political spectrum.
