According to a Beijing-affiliated outlet, Yuyuan Tantian, citing sources, U.S. officials have reportedly contacted Chinese counterparts to discuss the heavy tariffs impacting global markets and supply chains.
The outlet, tied to CCTV, stated on Weibo that Washington is “proactively” seeking talks through various channels, suggesting the U.S. is under greater pressure to negotiate due to multiple challenges faced by the Trump administration.
Starting in April, the U.S. imposed tariffs as high as 145% on Chinese goods, while China retaliated with 125% duties on U.S. imports.
President Trump has claimed China initiated talks and expressed optimism about reaching a deal “on our terms” during a NewsNation town hall.
