Bola Ahmed Tinubu has arrived in the United Kingdom for a two-day state visit hosted by King Charles III, marking a significant diplomatic engagement between both nations.
The visit is the first of its kind by a Nigerian head of state in nearly four decades and is expected to feature a state banquet at Windsor Castle, a historic royal residence located west of London.
President Tinubu arrived at London Stansted Airport shortly before 4:00 pm UK time, according to footage aired by Nigerian television stations.

Nigeria maintains strong historical and diplomatic ties with the UK, being a member of the Commonwealth, while Britain hosts a large Nigerian diaspora community.
The president’s visit comes just a day after deadly explosions rocked Maiduguri, where suspected suicide bombers carried out coordinated attacks that left at least 23 people dead and more than 100 others injured.
What you should know
Tinubu’s UK visit is a major diplomatic milestone, reflecting strengthened ties between Nigeria and Britain after decades without a formal state visit.
Such visits often focus on trade, security, and bilateral cooperation. However, the timing is sensitive, coming shortly after deadly attacks in Maiduguri, which may also shape discussions around security collaboration.
The presence of a large Nigerian diaspora in the UK further adds importance to the engagement, as both countries continue to deepen economic and cultural relations.
