A police officer, Chief Superintendent of Police Modestus Ojiebe, has been kidnapped by armed assailants along the Abuja-Kaduna Expressway in Abuja.

Verily News gathered the victim who is attached to the Kwara State Police Command, was attacked while attempting to fix his vehicle, which broke down near Dei-Dei Police Barracks in Abuja.

Eyewitnesses stated that the assailants, who were in an ash-colored Mercedes-Benz, searched and robbed Ojiebe and his wife of their mobile phones and ATM cards. Upon discovering Ojiebe’s police identity card, they forced him into their vehicle and sped off, leaving his wife and their car at the scene.

The police have launched a search and rescue operation, with stop-and-search operations intensified at various entry and exit points of the FCT. The Police Public Relations Officer in FCT, Josephine Adeh, has yet to issue an official statement on the incident.

This kidnapping incident is the latest in a series of security concerns in Abuja, where there have been reports of pockets of kidnapping incidents in recent times.
