Nigerian superstar Temilade Openiyi, known professionally as Tems, is poised to add yet another prestigious accolade to her burgeoning collection.
The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) is set to award her hit single “Love Me JeJe” a Gold certification, following the track’s remarkable achievement of surpassing 500,000 units in sales in the United States.
The milestone, reported by the influential music chart news platform Chart Data on Wednesday, underscores Tems’ growing dominance in the global music scene and cements her status as one of Nigeria’s most formidable musical exports.
Love Me JeJe,” the second single from Tems’ critically acclaimed debut album Born in the Wild (released June 7, 2024), has captivated audiences worldwide with its infectious Afrobeats-R&B fusion.
The track, produced by GuiltyBeatz and Spax, interpolates the 1997 Nigerian classic of the same name by Seyi Sodimu featuring Shaffy Bello, reimagining it for a new generation while paying homage to Tems’ Lagos roots.
Its irresistible rhythm, paired with Tems’ soulful vocals and nostalgic lyricism, propelled the song to Number 1 on the Official UK Afrobeats Chart and secured her fourth UK Top 40 single. In the U.S., the track’s commercial success is evidenced by its Gold eligibility, a feat achieved in under a year since its April 26, 2024 release.
This latest RIAA certification is particularly noteworthy as it follows closely on the heels of Tems’ acquisition of four additional RIAA certifications in February 2025. These included a 2x Platinum certification for “Free Mind,” Platinum for “Higher,” and Gold for both “Me & U” and “Found” featuring Brent Faiyaz.
The rapid succession of these achievements highlights Tems’ unrelenting momentum and her ability to resonate with American audiences, a market notoriously challenging for international acts.
