The Cross River State House of Assembly has suspended a member representing Obubra I State Constituency, Dickson Agbor, indefinitely over an allegation of domestic violence.
Agbor was placed on indefinite suspension from all legislative activities while the Assembly carries out an investigation into the allegation against him.

The decision was taken during plenary on Thursday after a motion was moved by Davies Etta and seconded by Francis Bassey Asuquo.
While presenting the motion, Etta criticised the alleged violent conduct involving Agbor. He described the action as behaviour that does not befit a lawmaker and said it goes against the ethical standards expected from members of the legislative arm of government.
According to him, the Assembly must act firmly to protect the integrity and reputation of the House.
“We must ensure that members conduct themselves in a manner that reflects the values and responsibilities entrusted to us by the people,” he said.
The Assembly also approved the creation of an ad hoc committee to investigate the allegation and present its findings to the House for further legislative action.
After the resolution was adopted, Agbor was escorted out of the chamber by the Sergeant-at-Arms in line with the directive of the House.
Speaking on the development, the Speaker of the House, Elvert Ayambem, said the Assembly remains committed to maintaining discipline, dignity and the integrity of the legislature.
Ayambem stated that lawmakers must always act in ways that show the trust placed in them by the public.
“The House will not condone any form of misconduct capable of bringing the legislature into disrepute. We must continue to uphold the dignity of this institution,” he said.
The Assembly explained that the suspension will remain in effect until the committee completes its investigation and submits its report on the allegation.
