The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques conveyed his heartfelt condolences in a formal message that mourned the loss of the late Nigerian leader and expressed solidarity with Buhari’s family during this time of mourning.
The message, which was addressed to both President Tinubu and the Nigerian populace, reflected the Saudi monarch’s recognition of Buhari’s role as an elder statesman and influential figure in Nigeria’s history. Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman also sent his own note of condolence to the Nigerian government. In his message, the Crown Prince expressed sorrow over the passing of Buhari and offered prayers for his eternal rest, specifically asking that Allah grant him peace in Al-Jannah Firdaus, the highest level of paradise in Islamic belief.

The death of the 82-year-old former president occurred on Sunday, July 13, 2025, in a hospital in London following a prolonged illness. Buhari, who had battled health challenges in the years leading up to his death, had been receiving care abroad prior to his passing.
In Nigeria, preparations for his final rites continue, with the Federal Government having declared Tuesday, July 15, a public holiday in his honor. Additionally, national flags are flying at half-mast across all government buildings, military institutions, and foreign missions to signify a period of official mourning.
Buhari’s remains arrived in Nigeria on Tuesday morning, with his burial scheduled for later in the day in his hometown of Daura, Katsina State, in accordance with Islamic rites.
