In a significant breakthrough in what authorities are calling an attempted murder case, the Kano State Police Command has arrested two suspects in connection with a violent attack on popular Nigerian Afrobeat artist Keshinro Ololade, better known as Lil Kesh.

The suspects, identified as 25-year-old Mathew Adewole of Na’ibawa Quarters and 31-year-old Mukhtar Muhammad of Unguwa Uku Quarters, were apprehended in Kano following what police described as an intelligence-led tracking operation.

The incident occurred on August 19, 2025, at the singer’s residence in Bera Estate, Chevron, Lagos, where the perpetrators allegedly carried out a violent robbery that could have proven fatal.

According to Kano State Police Command spokesperson SP Abdullahi Haruna, Adewole reportedly inflicted a severe neck wound on the artist during the robbery. The attack was not merely a robbery but appeared to be a calculated assault that left the singer fighting for his life.

During the violent encounter, the suspects allegedly forced Lil Kesh to transfer ₦2.1 million to Muhammad’s account, demonstrating the premeditated nature of the crime. The substantial sum suggests this was not a crime of opportunity but rather a targeted attack on the successful musician.

The case has drawn significant attention due to both the brutality of the assault and the cross-state nature of the investigation. The fact that the suspects were tracked from Lagos to Kano, hundreds of kilometers away, highlights the sophisticated intelligence work undertaken by Nigerian law enforcement agencies.

The suspects were arrested at Na’ibawa Quarters, Kano, bringing an end to what could have been a lengthy manhunt. Their capture represents a rare success story in Nigeria’s ongoing battle against violent crime, particularly crimes targeting high-profile individuals.

The arrested men have since been transferred to the Lagos State Police Command, where they will face further investigation and prosecution. This transfer ensures that the case will be handled in the jurisdiction where the crime occurred, following proper legal procedures.

This incident underscores the vulnerability of celebrities and public figures to targeted attacks in Nigeria, where kidnapping and violent robbery have become increasingly common. The case also demonstrates the importance of interstate police cooperation in solving crimes that cross jurisdictional boundaries.

As investigations continue, the entertainment industry and fans alike will be watching closely to see how justice is served in this shocking case of attempted murder and robbery against one of Nigeria’s prominent musical talents.

The Lagos State Police Command is expected to provide further updates as the prosecution moves forward, while Lil Kesh continues his recovery from what could have been a fatal encounter.

WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW

Nigerian police have successfully arrested two suspects who brutally attacked popular singer Lil Kesh at his Lagos home on August 19, inflicting a deep neck wound and forcing him to transfer ₦2.1 million.

The cross-state manhunt from Lagos to Kano demonstrates effective police cooperation but highlights the growing threat of violent, targeted crimes against celebrities in Nigeria. Both suspects now face prosecution for what could have been a fatal assault.
