The National Working Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party led by Kabiru Tanimu Turaki has rejected the judgment of the Court of Appeal which nullified the party’s national convention held on November 15 and 16, 2025, in Ibadan.
The spokesperson of the Turaki faction, Ini Ememobong, disclosed in a statement that the party’s legal team had been directed to challenge the ruling at the Supreme Court of Nigeria.

Ememobong said the faction believes that implementing the judgment of the appellate court would create serious hardship for members of the party.
“The operationalisation of this judgment will, without fail, impose untold hardship on our members,” he said.
“To avert this, while we consult with critical organs of our party on the way forward, we have instructed our lawyers to immediately take the necessary legal steps to appeal to the Supreme Court, the apex court in the land, for a final determination of the matter.”
He expressed confidence that the Supreme Court would resolve the dispute promptly in the interest of democracy and political stability.

Ememobong also urged members of the party to remain calm and united as the legal process continues, assuring them that the issue would soon be resolved.
According to him, the party must be rescued “from the hands of those masquerading as opposition leaders.”

The dispute over the Peoples Democratic Party’s national convention in Ibadan has deepened internal divisions within the party.
The Court of Appeal recently nullified the convention, creating uncertainty about the legitimacy of decisions and leadership outcomes arising from the gathering. The Turaki-led faction has now moved to challenge the ruling at the Supreme Court of Nigeria, hoping to secure a final legal resolution.
The case is expected to play a crucial role in determining the direction of the PDP and its internal leadership structure as the party seeks to maintain unity and remain a major opposition force in Nigeria.
