The chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Zamfara State, Jamil Jibo Magayaki, has defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Magayaki confirmed his resignation from the PDP and his move to the APC in a statement shared on his social media platforms.

He explained that his decision to join the APC was influenced by the current political situation in Zamfara State.
According to him, the ruling party is better positioned to address the challenges facing the people of the state and provide effective governance.
“I, Dr. Jamil Jibo Magayaki, the Zamfara State Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), hereby announce my formal defection to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
“My decision to join the APC is based on the current political reality in Zamfara State, which demands alignment with a platform better positioned to address the challenges of security, development and governance for the benefit of our people,” the statement read.
The defection comes only a few days after the governor of Zamfara State, Dauda Lawal, also confirmed his decision to leave the PDP and join the APC.
The confirmation was given in a statement issued on Monday by the governor’s media aide, Nuhu Anka.
Earlier reports indicated that the Deputy Governor of Zamfara State, Mani Malam Mummuni, had announced the development in a video that later circulated widely on the internet.
In the video, the deputy governor was seen praising the APC while celebrating with other members of the state cabinet after the move to the ruling party.
Confirming the development, Governor Lawal, in a statement through his media aide, said the decision followed consultations with stakeholders in the state.
He also blamed the prolonged internal crisis, leadership disagreements and unresolved structural problems within the PDP at both the national and state levels.
The governor added that his decision to join the APC was taken in the interest of Zamfara State and aimed at promoting stability, progress and sustainable development.
Lawal also appealed to the people of the state for understanding and support regarding the political decision.
