The Peoples Democratic Party Board of Trustees (BoT) has established a special committee to engage with the party’s legal team and key stakeholders in a bid to resolve internal disputes and restore unity.
The decision was announced in a communiqué released on Wednesday in Abuja following a two-day expanded emergency meeting chaired by BoT chairman Adolphus Wabara.

According to the statement, the committee will address the leadership crisis triggered by the March 9 judgement of the Court of Appeal and also help ensure that the party is able to present candidates in upcoming elections.
The court ruling had nullified the party’s November 2025 National Convention, which produced the Tanimu Turaki-led National Working Committee (NWC).
Although the BoT expressed disagreement with the ruling, it stated that the party would await formal legal advice before deciding its next steps.
The board also expressed concern about internal disputes and political wrangling within the party, which it said had led to unnecessary litigation and weakened the unity of the main opposition party.
“The board, however, acknowledges and resolves to explore the window provided by the Court of Appeal, Ibadan Division, for reconciliation within the party.
“The BoT is conscious of the interests and aspirations of our members who are desirous of contesting various positions in the 2027 general elections.
“As the conscience and third-highest leadership organ of the party, the board is resolved to take immediate steps to reconcile all stakeholders, end all disputes, and restore the party to good political health,” the communiqué said.
The board also appreciated the loyalty of Nigerians to the party, referencing the ongoing nationwide electronic registration exercise.
According to the communiqué, field reports show a rapid increase in new registrations across the country, with supporters joining the party in large numbers.
“The unprecedented surge to our party, in spite of the challenges, underscores the standing of the PDP as the party of choice for the majority of Nigerians ahead of the 2027 elections,” the statement said.

The BoT further urged party leaders and members to put aside personal and factional interests and work together for the overall progress of the party.
It also announced that, in line with Section 32 of the party’s constitution, Dr Babangida Aliyu had been unanimously approved as the Secretary of the Board of Trustees.
Additionally, the board commended Bala Mohammed and Seyi Makinde for their commitment and continued support toward maintaining stability within the party.
The communiqué concluded by encouraging Nigerians to remain hopeful, stating that the party was working toward repositioning itself to “rescue the nation.”
