Billionaire businessman Femi Otedola has commended Aliko Dangote, President and Chief Executive of the Dangote Group, for his recent encounter with former U.S. President Donald Trump.

The meeting, which took place in Doha, Qatar, during a state dinner hosted by the Amir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani, was seen as a major moment of global recognition for the Nigerian industrialist.

Otedola, reacting via a post on X, wrote, “The richest black man in the world shaking hands with the most powerful man in the world.”

In a brief 22-second video shared by the Dangote Group on Thursday, Dangote was seen exchanging greetings with Trump during the high-profile diplomatic event.

As of March 2025, Forbes listed Dangote’s net worth at \$23.9 billion, reaffirming his status as Africa’s richest man. Trump, on the same list, was reported to have a net worth of \$5.5 billion.

Dangote’s business empire spans multiple sectors, with the flagship Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals standing out as a monumental industrial feat. Located in the Lekki Free Zone, Lagos, the 650,000 BPD refinery boasts the largest pipeline infrastructure in the world, stretching over 1,100 kilometers and capable of handling three billion standard cubic feet of gas per day. The facility is powered by a 435MW plant and is expected to meet Nigeria’s entire refined product needs, with a surplus available for export.

On May 9, Dangote clarified that there is no rivalry between his company and the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL). During a courtesy visit to NNPCL’s CEO, Bashir Ojulari, he emphasized the importance of collaboration to strengthen Nigeria’s energy security and economic growth.

Dangote’s recent international engagements also include his appointment to the World Bank’s Private Sector Investment Lab, a group tasked with driving investment and job creation in developing economies. President Bola Tinubu lauded the appointment, describing it as well-deserved in light of Dangote’s proven business acumen and contribution to employment and innovation across Africa.

Through both local investments and global recognition, Dangote continues to position himself as a key figure in shaping Africa’s economic future.
