Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has urged African nations to adopt sustainable health financing strategies to ensure efficient resource mobilization and utilization. Speaking at the 38th African Union Summit in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, she emphasized that Africa’s economic stability depends on a robust healthcare system.

Addressing a High-Level Meeting on Domestic Health Financing, she called for innovative funding solutions beyond donor aid. She also urged governments to honor the Abuja Declaration by allocating at least 15% of national budgets to healthcare.

The meeting, convened by Rwandan President Paul Kagame, brought together African leaders and donor agencies to discuss solutions for healthcare funding gaps, especially in light of changing global financial policies. Participants highlighted the need for local investment, improved medical technology, and transparency in fund allocation.

As the Global and National Stop TB Champion, Tinubu emphasized the role of First Ladies in mobilizing healthcare resources through government and private-sector collaboration.
