The Oba of Benin, Oba Ewuare II, has issued a strong warning to Nigerian youths against resorting to violence capable of throwing the country into disorder and instability.
The revered monarch gave the counsel while receiving leaders of the Benin City Christian Community at his palace in Benin City, where activities marking the 2026 Universal Week of Prayers concluded on Sunday.

Speaking in the Edo Language, the First Class traditional ruler made a passionate appeal to young people across Edo State to show restraint, apply wisdom in their actions, and protect the cultural heritage handed down to them for the sake of future generations.
“To all our youths across Edo State, we use this opportunity to plead with you, do not use violence to destroy Nigeria and cause confusion in this country.
“Allow this government in Edo State to work. Support and keep praying for leaders in this country,” the Oba said.

His remarks followed widespread media reports concerning recent incidents involving students of Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, in Esan West Local Government Area of the state.
The Oba also offered prayers to Almighty God and his royal ancestors, asking for strength and divine wisdom for Nigeria’s leaders as they carry out their daily responsibilities.
Reflecting on his journey since ascending the throne of his forefathers nearly a decade ago, the monarch spoke about the challenges encountered during his reign. He urged Christians from different denominations to remain united and committed to mutual growth, in line with the teachings of Christ.
During the Universal Week of Prayer, themed “The unchangeable God,” Apostle Godspower Ogbonmwan delivered a goodwill message, stressing that God’s promises are certain and will be fulfilled, drawing examples from biblical accounts.

He also reminded leaders, regardless of religious affiliation, of their continuous responsibility to serve the people entrusted to them.
The Chairman of the Benin City Christian Community, Apostle Matthew Ogbonmwan, alongside Reverend Olu Aderibigbe, led intercessory prayers, while the General Secretary, Reverend Theophilus Aibinuomo, moderated the programme. The event also featured worship sessions, hymns, and songs of praise.
